Sheesh, I don't even want to write this review. This is another hidden gem in Winter Park. I know once the cat is out of the bag that this place is going to get even more full of people. This is my absolute favorite place if I'm out and about on the weekend to pick up a pastry. I say weekends because I am obsessed with their weekend only French style Kouign Amann pastry. Layers of delicious dough ensconced between butter and sugar, and more butter, and more sugar. It is a delightful candied pastry that is hard to find. Everything else here I've tried it's been spectacular one of my recent favorites was a giant chocolate chip cookie and also any of their croissants. By 11 AM this place usually has an a line out the door on weekends.
The staff are always super friendly. and willing to fill you up a nice, big, loaded cardboard box to carry your copious pastry order if you plan to order more than three or four. The seating is limited but don't let that deter you, if there are no seats usually a table will clear pretty quickly or you can just get a big, delicious box to go. -

Easily the best bakery in Orlando suburbs.
The croissants are fresh, the omelette rich, the service is impeccable.
Sometimes on Sundays there can be lines, but they move very fast, and the wait only makes the food better! -

Update: delicious as always. Came on a Saturday morning and there was absolutely no crowd. Staff was friendly and amazing. Succulents and houseplants beautiful. Everything croissant-y is so flaky and decadent. We chowed down on all our pastries while admiring everyone else's dishes. You can't go wrong here.
So. Freaking. Good. I have had the monkey bread, the pistachio and chocolate snail, the pomegranate brioche doughnut, and the cranberry & Brie croissant here, and they were all spectacular. I think you could get pretty much anything here and be blown away. The interior and porch seating sections are both very cute as well - lots of succulents and houseplants.
The only reason I'm giving Buttermilk Bakery a 4-star rating instead of the 5-stars their food certainly deserves is due to how crowded it gets. The lines for takeout - even just for ready-made bakery items - move SO slowly. I think their check-out system is kind of inept - they always have two people working on the same order regardless of the size.
TLDR - hate the crowds, adore the croissants -

My favorite bakery and my go to croissants! I am a lover of everything buttery and Buttermilk Bakery makes my favorite croissants in Orlando. This one is filled with almond paste, and topped with sliced almonds and powdered sugar. Not too sweet, perfect, flaky, and always delicious.

This is a cute little bakery. Not a ton of selections to choose from but what they have is really good. It's also cool to see them actually bake the stuff right in front of you as you pay.
I ordered a couple of things. Some were better than others. The oatmeal raisin cookie was good, but perhaps needed a bit more spice to it. The s'mores cookie was really nice. Definitely not quite something I've tasted before.
One standout was the chocolate croissant. Man that thing was awesome. Wasn't even warm, yet it was insanely buttery and flakey to the point where you could tell that whoever baked it had culinary training. The chocolate inside was delightful as well. But you know a chocolate croissant is good when even the bites without the chocolate are amazing.
Another one of my favorites was the chocolate banana muffin. It was moist and delicious. I'm honestly not a huge fan of banana muffins, but something about adding some gooey, rich chocolate chunks just makes it one of my favorite desserts.
This place is definitely worth a try. They bake their stuff with care. Just be sure to go in the afternoon because they close early.
